Extensions that stay warm and naturally bright all year round

Energy efficiency

Glazed extensions are the perfect solution for adding living space and are considerably more cost-effective than brick and mortar extensions. Because much of their design consists of high-performance glass, a glazed extension is also significantly better lit, allowing you to bask in the glow of natural light whenever using the new space. In the past, however, certain types of glazed extension, in particular conservatories with polycarbonate roofs, were unable to maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the year. But thanks to the latest thermal enhancements, the insulating qualities of our conservatories and orangeries are absolutely superb, leaving you with a warm space in the winter and a cool one in the summer. In particular, tiled roofs offer fantastic thermal efficiency due to their low U-values. This means they can transmit heat at a low rate, thus helping to keep your home at an optimal temperature.

Styles and customisation

One of the best things about our glazed extensions is the sheer variety on offer. As well as the choices between having aluminium, uPVC or timber framings, each material also has a wide range of customisation options. The framing in our conservatories and orangeries are available in a large range of shades and finishes. We offer colours able to fit multiple aesthetics, be it something to make your extension really stand out or something more on the subtle side. Timber and uPVC can be painted or finished in a variety of shades and colourways, as well as aluminium able to play host to a stunning selection of customisations.

It is not just the colours and materials that you can use to customise your glazed extension. There are also windows, flooring, lighting and doors to select from. For example, we have a fantastic range of doors that can perfectly complement a conservatory, including French doors and sliding patio doors. Also, despite offering a bespoke conservatory design service, there are several styles available to choose from. These options include lean-to, gable-end and traditional styles such as Victorian and Edwardian.

What is the difference between a conservatory and an orangery?

The difference between a conservatory and an orangery is a fairly subtle one. The difference generally revolves around the amount of glass in the respective structures. Conservatories tend to feature roofs that cover at least 75% of the roof area, along with at least 50% of the wall area being made up of glass. Orangeries, on the other hand, are essentially the opposite with typically less than 75% of glass covering the roof area and less than 50% of glass installed in the walls. Generally, orangeries will contain less glass than conservatories and feature brick pillars.

Geraint Whitley

'We needed new windows in our Victorian house as the original ones were incredibly draughty and no longer opened properly. Our priority was to get efficient modern windows which were in keeping with the style of the property. Tony at Budget Windows put a great deal of effort into advising us and designing our windows. The fitters were really tidy and trustworthy and we are thrilled with the results.'

Zoe Davies

'Absolutely brilliant from beginning to end – amazing fitters – two windows and patio sliding doors – great company to deal with – thank you.'

'Ben was excellent in assisting us to choose the right windows, guiding us through the different options available and understanding our requirements for a 1930s house. He delivered ahead of schedule and the fitting was excellent. One minor production fault was noted and corrected very quickly and the windows look fantastic. Real high quality at a fantastic price. We did a lot of comparisons and some came in at 3x the price we paid and I didn’t see the difference in quality, nor was the customer service matched. Highly recommend Budget Windows.'
